How shipping works

Most common

RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off)

The car is driven directly onto a purpose-built RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessel and secured in place for the voyage - no container, no disassembly. It's the standard way to ship a single passenger vehicle, and usually the most cost-effective option for one car.

Container

The car travels inside its own shipping container (typically a 40' high-cube), fully enclosed and protected from sea exposure for the whole voyage. A container can usually fit several vehicles, so the cost is often split when more than one shipment shares it.

Consolidation

When a container isn't full with just your car, we consolidate it with other vehicles or cargo heading to the same port, splitting the container cost between shipments - this is how the shared, per-car container estimate on this page is calculated. Consolidation depends on what else is shipping that week, so it isn't guaranteed on every sailing.
